Keep a PDF Copy of that E-Signed Document

Pro tip from LifeHackerWhen You Electronically Sign Documents, Always Keep a Copy.

Don’t – Assume that you’ll have perpetual access to the e-signed copy as happened to the freelancer described in the post – “when he clicked to open the contract, all he got was an error message. The contract was gone. There was no way to prove the client owed him money.”

Do – Download a PDF of the signed contract and save it to your own files. “Consider the copy that lives on the electronic signature site to be a backup.”

Don’t – “When an agreement requires signatures from multiple parties, don’t assume the signing process will be complete immediately after you do your part.”  Follow up to make sure that all parties have signed.
