BadgerLink Renews Contracts for Wisconsin+ Newspaper Databases

BadgerLink recently announced that it has renewed contracts for two newspaper collections featuring content from Wisconsin.  These are great collections for researching local and state-wide issues and events. Almost 500 Wisconsin newspapers are available in BadgerLink collections.

Newspapers published in large Wisconsin & U.S. cities

U.S. Newsstream includes current and archival (to 1980s) U.S. news featuring key national and regional sources including The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Newsday, and Chicago Tribune as well as over 80 Gannett titles.

Also includes news sources from the following Wisconsin cities: Appleton, Green Bay, Janesville, Kenosha, La Crosse, Madison, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Neenah, Oshkosh, Rhinelander, Stevens Point, Wausau, Williams Bay, and Wisconsin Rapids.

Newspapers published in small Wisconsin communities

Archive of Wisconsin Newspapers contains Wisconsin daily and weekly newspapers, providing full coverage of all issues published between at least 2005 and the present (almost) in Wisconsin communities with populations of up to 10,000.  Previously, there was an embargo period of 90 days for current news.  In the new contract, that embargo period has been reduced to 60 days. A few newspapers are available from the 1800s and 1900s

A list of the almost 300 included newspapers is available on BadgerLink.

Other Newspapers and More

Badgerlink has several other newspaper collections including regional business news, historical newspapers, world news, and newswires.

If you’re not familiar with Badgerlink, it is a wonderful collection of databases that is available to all Wisconsin residents through the Department of Public Instruction.  In addition to newspapers, it includes journals and magazines, genealogy materials, test prep (including the LSAT), health information, manuals, and more.

Hat tip to Diane Duffey for news on the contract renewals.
